FASHION FADES: 2010

Rosemount Australian Fashion Week rolled around pretty quickly this year. It still shocks me we're already 6 months into the year. There's a lot of designers I would like to congradulate on their efforts this season. There are far too many trends to mention that I plan on incorporating into my own wardrobe but one that caught my eye and won't leave my mind is luscious leather! I've always had a secret obsession with leather, the texture, the warmth, even the smell absolutely draws me in to the point where I have to have it! How could you not? This winter is all about the leather jackets, pants, shirts, skirts vests and even shorts teamed with a cute pair of tights. It's so classic yet edgy and will never ever date. As much as I love black and am hardly ever caught wearing anything but black, tan leather is a huge must have this season. Kate Sylvester literally deserves a round of applause for her a-line skirts, form fitting bodysuits, bomber jackets and hotpants all in smooth-as-silk tan leather. She also sent the models down the runway in socks and sandals, oversized neck ties and incorporated an array of pretty pastels. These masculine yet oh so feminine looks made my heart melt, congradulations Kate, you rocked my world.

KILLIN' IT

Laruche Bar in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley have gladly agreed to host a Fashion Show put together by the students from the Australian Institute of Creative Design. Each student has contributed to styling for this event and to showcase our creativity we have thrown it all together into one parade. A lot of time and effort has gone into preparing for this event, not only from the students but we have our lovely styling teacher Tanja Mrnjaus to thank for making all of this happen! Now all we are waiting for is Wednesday 16th of June to roll around.

GET THE LOOK

Winter is upon us and I swear us Brisbane folk need to up our game. The amount of people I see wandering the streets in our so called 'winter' gear is ridiculous. I'm sorry but it is neither appropriate nor acceptable to be 'strutting our stuff' in a singlet and a pair of thongs in nearly freezing weather. I know our winter isn't nearly as cold as some but if you have goose-bumps and feel the need to drink your way to warmth you are clearly deluded. Personally, winter is my favourite season. How can you not soak up the opportunity to layer? Not to mention the wider range of accessories such as scarves, gloves, hats and my ultimate favourite winter necessity, a fabulous pair of boots!

So when it comes to finding the person who gets it right every single time, it has to be, without a doubt the wonderful, Kate Lanphear. She is the epitome of style and my number one fashion icon. She channels the winter look so effortlessly it makes me green with envy, literally. I've been sourcing pieces online to basically, mimic her look. Now of course this hasn't been an easy task considering what makes Kate so unique is her own edgy look but Fashion Editor of US Elle magazine is definately one to follow. I think these quick snaps speak for themselves.
